KWBG Sports at a Glance for November 3rd
UNDATED (AP) - The Atlanta Hawks remain the NBA's only unbeaten
team in the Eastern Conference after Marvin Williams scored 22
points and Al Horford notched a double-double in a 100-88 triumph
at Cleveland. The Miami Heat won their fourth in a row since
dropping their season opener as Dwyane (dwayn) Wade provided a
team-high 26 points in a 129-97 pounding of Minnesota. Boston also
improved to 4-1, thanks in part to Kevin Garnett's game-high 22
points in a 109-86 rout of Detroit.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Washington Wizards rookie John Wall had his
best game being taken first overall in this year's NBA draft. Wall
finished with 29 points, 13 assists and nine steals to lead
Washington's 116-115 overtime win against Philadelphia. One of
Wall's assists led to Cartier Martin's game-tying basket with 0.3
seconds left in regulation.
UNDATED (AP) - The Minnesota Wild earned a 1-0 victory over San
Jose last night despite being outshot 36-16. Niklas Backstrom
notched his first shutout of the season while helping Minnesota
kill off the Sharks' five power plays. Columbus blanked Montreal
3-0, Ottawa topped Toronto 3-2 and Raffi Torres recorded a hat
trick in Vancouver's 4-3 verdict over Edmonton.
NEW YORK (AP) - Television ratings for this year's World Series
equaled the lowest ever. The San Francisco Giants' five-game
victory over the Texas Rangers equaled the 2008 Phillies-Rays
lowest-rated World Series and this year's ratings were down 28
percent from last year's Phillies-Yankees series.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Two people with knowledge of Randy Moss'
status tell The Associated Press that the Minnesota Vikings have
waived the six-time All-Pro receiver. If Moss is not claimed, he
will be free to sign a new contract with any team and the Vikings
would be on the hook for rest of his salary.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The University of Iowa has told the NCAA
the school allowed two basketball recruits to meet celebrity
Hawkeye fans Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. Such a meeting would be
a recruiting violation.
The Des Moines Register reports Sunday that the recruits met the
married movie stars along with two former Iowa basketball players
at an Iowa-Iowa State football game in September.
NCAA rules prohibit recruits from contact with individuals
considered to represent a university's athletic interests.
Senior associate athletic director Mark Abbott says the school
reported the matter to the NCAA after an internal investigation. A
school spokesman didn't immediately return a call from The
Associated Press.
