DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Cubs play at Omaha today in the
Pacific Coast League, hoping to bounce back after two losses at
home against Nashville. The Sounds topped the Cubs 6-4 yesterday.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Chicago Cubs have purchased the contract
of left-handed pitcher Scott Maine from Triple-A Iowa and optioned
right-hander Justin Berg to Iowa. The 25-year-old Maine has split
this season between Iowa and Double-A Tennessee but had not pitched
in the majors.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Carlos Zambrano has continued his resurgence
since rejoining the Chicago Cubs' rotation. He gave up one run on
five hits over seven-plus innings as the Cubs won 5-4 at Washington
yesterday. The team improved to 2-0 under interim manager Mike
Quade.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Big Ten's expansion to 12 teams and
switch to divisional play next year may lead to changes for some
rivalry games. Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez says
officials are trying to preserve the biggest traditional rivalry
game at each school, but competitive balance will determine the
divisions.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) - Northern Iowa defensive lineman Henry
Obi has been indefinitely suspended after being arrested for
allegedly punching a man in the face last month. Cedar Falls police
arrested the 22-year-old on Sunday. He saw limited playing time
last year.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The New Orleans Saints have signed former
Iowa running back Ladell Betts to a one-year deal. The 30-year-old
is working his way back from major knee surgery last fall. Coach
Sean Payton says Betts won't play Saturday in the team's preseason
matchup against Houston.

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - The Iowa Cubs wrap up a series at Fresnotoday in the Pacific Coast League, hoping to bounce back from an8-5 loss. Micah Hoffpauir and Bobby Scales hit back-to-back homeruns for the Cubs yesterday, and Marquez Smith also connected on asolo shot.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Chicago Cubs have knocked the Cardinals outof first place in the NL Central with a 9-7 victory at St. Louis.Chicago's Derrek Lee homered in his first two at-bats. RyanDempster won his third straight start for the Cubs.

at home against Portland in the Pacific Coast League. The Beavers
pounded the Cubs 13-3 yesterday.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The Chicago Cubs have snapped a four-game
skid with an 8-6 victory at San Francisco. Starlin Castro drove in
three runs, and Kosuke Fukudome homered as the Cubs battered Giants
ace Tim Lincecum (LINZ'-ih-kuhm) last night.
