KWBG Sports at a Glance for July 27th

MLB Baseball Tonight
Cubs at Astros (6:30pm pregame on KWBG)

IRVING, Texas (AP) - Iowa State football coach Paul Rhoads says
beating Minnesota in the Insight Bowl last year gave the team
momentum that was reflected in how players worked in the offseason.
Rhoads also called running back Alexander Robinson the most
underrated player in the Big 12.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - The Big Ten athletic directors meet next week
in Chicago, and Nebraska's Tom Osborne will be there as they talk
about divisional alignment and a possible football championship.
The Cornhuskers won't be an active Big Ten member until next July,
but Osborne says he'll share his opinion at the meetings if he's
asked.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - The Green Bay Packers have signed
defensive end Mike Neal, who was a second-round pick out of Purdue.
That leaves them with only first-rounder Bryan Bulaga of Iowa
unsigned from April's draft.

HOUSTON (AP) - The Chicago Cubs have opened a series at Houston
with a 5-2 victory. Geovany Soto drove in two runs for Chicago, and
Alfonso Soriano had two doubles and an RBI. Carlos Silva earned his
10th win of the season.

ROUND ROCK, Texas (AP) - The Iowa Cubs have tied a season high
with 19 hits in their 14-2 win at Round Rock. Micah Hoffpauir
homered for Iowa yesterday, and Casey Coleman got the win. The Cubs
have won six of seven and are 12 games over .500.

CHICAGO (AP) - Cubs manager Lou Piniella says Carlos Zambrano
will probably return during Chicago's series at Colorado next
weekend. Zambrano threw two scoreless innings for Triple-A Iowa on
Saturday and will likely make one more appearance for Iowa before
rejoining Chicago.

CHICAGO (AP) - The St. Louis Cardinals have avoided a weekend
sweep with a 4-3 road victory in 11 innings against the Chicago
Cubs. Felipe Lopez hit a tie-breaking solo homer in the 11th inning
to put the Cardinals back in the NL Central lead. They're a
half-game ahead of Cincinnati.

IRVING, Texas (AP) - Commissioner Dan Beebe worked hard to keep
the Big 12 from crumbling when Colorado and Nebraska decided to
leave. He's proud of how things played out. He'll be back in the
spotlight this week with Big 12 media days starting today.
